Brisbane invention showcased to Australia's sporting elite
A dynamic new coaching tool will be showcased today to the elite of Australian sporting expertise.
Gathered in the River City for the Australian Association of Exercise and Sport Science Conference, sporting experts will see first-hand the work of Brisbane-based company - Fusion Sport.
Their invention - Smartspeed™ - is the world's first Reactive Training System with the potential to become a global standard in sports training and testing equipment.
"Smartspeed™ has the potential to change the way the world plays sport," designer and inventor Dr Markus Deutsch of Fusion Sport said today. "From complex training and agility programs to simple speed testing applications, Smartspeed™ will save time, effort and money in preparation, testing and reporting."
It is a system of remote field sensors that time athletes during training and competition and provide them with real-time visual and audio feedback on their performance. It assists the coach by automating training drills, measuring performance and providing a range of commands and feedback to the athlete.
Smartspeed™ comes pre-programmed with a wide range of revolutionary drills for training speed, agility, endurance, strategy, decision making, reaction time and includes an exclusive resource pack.
"It can challenge aspects of athletic performance that have never been trained before," Dr Deutsch said. "The constant feedback and encouragement will really give athletes an edge - physically as well as mentally.
"We applaud athletes who seem to have 'all the time in the world' when faced with split second decisions, and have the ability to take small opportunities and maximise them. In sports training and testing these abilities have remained an enigma... until now!"
Smartspeed™ is already driving orders and interest from across the globe with companies from Japan and the U.K. chasing rights to distributorships.
Just last year the invention scooped the top prize in The University of Queensland Business School's $100,000 Enterprize Competition which recognises groundbreaking entrepreneurial discoveries.
NOTE: All media are invited to the Smartspeed™ demonstration at 1pm sharp on Wednesday April 14, 2004 at the Queensland University of Technology, Gardens Point, on the "Kidney Lawn" outside Old Government House.
